Job Description/Responsibility

  • Our client provides support for Defence's documents and records management system.  The software development team works as part of the larger team to support the ongoing operation, development and integration of this system with other Defence systems

    We are looking for someone with an NV1 to manage a team of up to ten senior developers / software engineers and data migration specialists.

Experience Requirements

  • 3 - 5+ years experience as team leader managing senior technical teams delivering end-to-end development projects.
  • 5+ years as a senior software designer and a proven ability to facilitate design workshops and process,
  • Experience scoping and managing delivery of software capability within an agile framework. Demonstrated experience in all aspects of the development lifecycle.
  • Solid experience in multi-server application design and development in a Java/Oracle environment, with particular focus on JSE.
  • Proven ability to apply software development best practice, leading and implementing innovation e.g. Continuous integration, DevOps

Skills Requirements

  • Provide direction to the software development team to ensure that developers are designing; building; unit testing and documenting their applications in accordance with the business requirements, schedule, budget and quality standards.  The role may permit limited development activity, consequently a background in Java and Oracle is required.
  • Conduct design and code reviews of applications with heavy emphasis on java services within Solaris and Windows environments.
  • Engage with Defence business clients to manage the gathering of requirements and ensure that the software development team delivers to those requirements.
  • Work with the Technical Services Manager to scope and estimate packages of work.
  • Manage the day-to-day activities of the software development team (between 5 and 10 developers) including delivery planning, resource allocation and task management.
  • Lead the engagement with other teams (eg. Testing, production support) to ensure the smooth transition of products through testing and release cycles.  Work with the test manager to triage defects and ensure timely resolution of critical issues.
  • Ensure that change and release management processes are adhered to for all software development products.
