Job Description

Architectural Design of Buildings   

  • Assist with generation of space plans (area requirements)
  • Produce technical documentation (drawings and schedules) for costing purposes
  • Provide technical advice regarding design elements to ensure that design meets company and regulatory standards
  • Use relevant architectural design software (Revit, AutoCAD, Lumion Pro, AutoSpec, SketchUP, Photo Shop)
  • Ensure plans will meet with Council approval
  • Compile Handover file of documentation (including guarantees, certificates and specifications)
  • Prepare documents for Council and drive the approval process.
  • Ensure delivery of all technical components
  • Ensure designs are in accordance with relevant standards and processes (SANS204 & SANS10400).

Project Management 

  • Project coordination and team management
  • Manage the construction project from start to finish
  • Value engineer designs based on costings received in collaboration with project team
  • Serve as a key link with the Manager Project Management Services and client’s representative and review the deliverable prepared by the team before passing onto the client
  • Facilitate and co-ordinate the efforts of all parties involved in the project, including professional service providers (consultants), contractors, sub-contractors and labour
  • Manage and develop team spirit and ensure that staff involved in the project are committed to the same goal
  • Identify and negotiate assignment of resources
  • Develop and Implement the project office framework with objectives and goals of the team members and assign individual responsibilities
  • Project control on cost, time and quality
  • Develop, implement and manage control measures for cost, time and quality are in place
  • Conduct regular status meetings with the principal agent teams
  • Conduct periodic inspection visits to project construction site(s)
  • Facilitate and ensure that construction activities follow the predetermined schedule and critically monitor project milestones
  •  Manage project accounting including budget management, approval of progress payments, tracking of team expenses and minimizing the exposure to risk
  • Approve invoices/claims submitted by contractors and/or professional service providers are timely checked, verified and forwarded to the Programme Manage
  • Maintain strict adherence to the budgetary guidelines as well as project management, quality and safety standards

 Conduct Work on Site

  • Conduct site inspections
  • Capture ‘as built’ data based on site survey
  • Brief contractor with Lead Designer
  • Produce construction documentation package
  • Co-ordinate technical components of site construction in conjunction with the Project team

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture or BTech in Architecture
  • Pr. Arch registration
  • 5-8 years’ experience
  • Have professional affiliations with SACAP, SAIA and GIFA
