Job Description/Responsibility

  • There is a temporary position available at the Department of Psychology as postdoctoral fellow in developmental psychology for a period of 2 years, with possibility for a third year with required duties. The position as postdoctoral fellow is a fixed-term position with the primary goal of qualifying for work in professional academic chair positions.
  • The Department of Psychology currently has approximately 110 employees and 1100 students. The Department holds a large and diverse research community covering a variety of disciplines within psychology, and offers studies at the bachelor-, master- and PhD level in addition to a study programme in clinical psychology. The Department also has three outpatient clinics that offer outpatient treatment as part of the educational programme in clinical psychology. In addition, the Department participates in extensive local, national and international research collaborations. Our research ambition is to be internationally and nationally leading in various disciplines of psychology.
  • The position is connected to the Trondheim Early Secure Study (TESS), a longitudinal study of mental health, psychosocial functioning, eating behavior, physical activity and weight from preschool to adolescence, aiming to identify predictors and mechanism for development.
The postdoctoral project will focus on computer gaming and use of social media. The project will specifically aim to identify factors predicting computer gaming and social media use, as well as how these activities affect children’s and adolescence’s mental health and psychosocial functioning. The research will be based on a biopsychosocial approach, which indicates that factors at all levels of influence (e.g. genetics, temperament, parents/family, school, peers) will be of interest, although special attention will be paid to Gene X Environment (GxE) interactions.
  • The candidate will be part of the TESS research group, and she/he is expected to publish scientific papers in highly renowned international journals. The position can possibly be prolonged to include a third year with teaching, supervision and grading after agreement with the Department.
