Job Description/Responsibility


Our client is a medium-sized information management company based in Johannesburg.


The Legal and Regulatory Counsel will be required to perform the following duties:

  • Provide business-focused legal services and assistance to the African operations of group and its subsidiaries.
  • Negotiate and draft various agreements, proposals, tender documents and any other document of a legal/binding/potentially risk or cost intensive nature.
  • Management of litigation matters including settlement negotiations, instructions to attorneys to defend matters and the mitigation of the company's risk and costs exposure.
  • Provide advice including assistance in respect of compliance, corporate investigations, including drafting of communications.
  • Relationship management, training and reporting.

Skills Requirements

The Legal and Regulatory Counsel will ideally meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Admitted attorney with completed LLB Degree
  • At least six to seven years post-qualification experience.
  • General commercial and legal experience at a large commercial law firm or corporation within a highly regulated industry.
  • Experience in the following areas of law is necessary:
    • Consumer protection and privacy law, NCA, intellectual property, technology, e-commerce privacy, credit reporting law, and Sarbanes-Oxley.
    • Extensive complex contract negotiation and drafting experience and dispute resolution skills.
    • Ability to handle multiple complex tasks and priorities continuously.
    • Ability to read, interpret, and understand documents such as laws, business documents, system documents, company policies, and procedures.
    • Strong written, verbal and negotiating skills as well as interface effectively with all levels of management and present a fitting corporate image to the press and public.
    • This position requires travel.
