Bandhu Social Welfare Society (Bandhu) started its journey in 1996 with a core objective to work for the wellbeing of sexual minority populations particularly gender diversified population. Bandhu ensures that the rights-based approach is inclusive in all its service deliveries and advocacy initiatives and in line with the international treaties and policies including UDHR and Yogyakarta Principles, a legal instrument on the application of International Human Rights Law in relation to Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (SOGI).
Bandhu through its substantive works in the area of sexual health and rights of sexual minority population has witnessed numerous cases of persistent violence, harassment and human rights violations against the communities and the number has been increasing alarmingly in the recent time.
Therefore, as a part of its commitment to address the human rights and rights to justice of this sexual minority groups, Bandhu initiated a legal help unit titled as “Ain-Alap (Legal Talk) with an objective to provide the community members with an easy access to information and assistance on legal issues through Legal Helpline services. This is the first ever initiative for sexual minority population in Bangladesh in terms of providing legal help and counseling.

Major Responsibilities
- Organize and conduct training session with community members on Yogyakarta Principles, UPR & Case Documentation process
- Organize training with the District Level Lawyers Group (DLLG) on Human Rights and Laws
- Documentation of Human rights violation cases
- Provide legal information, counseling and support as per the nature of incident with immediate response
- Include the member of District Level Lawyers Group (DLLG) into the District legal Aid panel through lobbying and meeting with lawyers and judges in the respective judge court
- Reorganization of WATCHDOG committee members involving the local community member at the divisional level to address the rights violation situation of sexual minority-
- Networking with legal aid provider and human rights based organization such as BLAST, BRAC, AIN O SHALISH KENDRA etc to ensure better services to the community through consultation meeting
- Refer cases to the respective legal aid provider and human rights organizations if necessary and follow up the referral
- Produce Spot Light on highlighted cases
- Regular Collaboration with National Human Rights Commission (case hearing, rapport building, formal & semi-formal meeting etc.), law commission and other Human Rights Institutes!
- Periodic field visit by the focal person to investigate cases and also extend support to the local level
- Disseminate and promote legal help line number through Bandhu website and field outreach activities
- Monthly, Quarterly and a final project completion report is required to be developed by the consultant.
- Weekly 40 hours presence are required during the office time as the nature of the work is like daily phone call receiving, counseling the client in person, entry the cases and desk work needs the availability of consultant at the office premises.
- Any other assistant as deems necessary by the Project Focal Person and Executive Director
Desired Education
- University graduate or post-graduate degree in Law from any recognized university
Job Requirements
- Age At most 45 year(s)
- At least Five years (05) working experience in legal field
- Good analytical skills and ability to analyze/synthesize data
- Good facilitation, communication and interpersonal skills
- Interest to work with Community People
- Excellent professional English (speaking and writing)
- Prior experience in working with the sexual minorities will be highly preferred
Salary: BDT Tk. 50,000.00 (Excluding VAT & Tax)
Other Benefits: Remuneration excluding all related taxes
