Background:
Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency is one of the
priority areas of German Development Cooperation in Bangladesh. The
Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Program (REEEP) of GIZ, supported
by the Bangladesh Ministry of Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources and
the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development
(BMZ) implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale
Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, is working to promote the use of renewable
energy, as well as efficient use of energy by building the capacities
of relevant stakeholders, promoting the new and customized renewable
energy and energy efficient technologies through sector assessment,
successful piloting, building the business case and improving the
framework conditions towards market uptake.
The strategic orientation of the programme is to
increase the use of 'renewable energies' and 'energy efficiency
improvement' along with building 'conceptual bases' for creating and
up-scaling of the same. Sustainable and Renewable Energy Development
Authority (SREDA) is REEEP’s government counterpart.
GIZ invites applications from suitable candidates for the position of a “Intern, Sustainable Energy” for GIZ‘s Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Programme (REEEP) in Bangladesh.
The position is based in Dhaka at GIZ REEEP Office.
However, the position requires occasional field visits to different
areas of Bangladesh where interventions are implemented by REEEP and its
partner organizations.
A. Responsibilities
As ”Intern”, the applicant will actively
participate in monitoring and documenting Renewable Energy (RE) and
Energy Efficiency (EE) component activities/interventions. The
applicant will also be responsible for preparing project progress
report and archiving background document. The possible RE and EE
interventions are Retained Heat Cooker, Biomass Briquette, and Biogas.
The Intern will work with REEEP’s RE Programme Component.
In this context, the position holder fulfils the following tasks:
B. Tasks
Renewable Energy Intervention Management
- Review existing information (awareness
campaigns & sessions, marketing and sales log sheets, case study
reports, lessons learnt etc.) for Biogas, Retained Heat Cooker and
Biomass Briquette.
- Review and analysis of Studies and Policies
related to Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency and present
findings to REEEP management and/or stakeholders
- Summarize available information and case study for those three interventions.
- Prepare draft business case for Biogas, Retained Heat Cooker and Biomass Briquette.
- Summarize all cost benefit analyses and
compare those analyses for different Service Provider of Biogas,
Retained Heat Cooker and Biomass Briquettes.
- Draft Market development plan including diversity of application for those interventions
- Incorporate comments and changes recommended
by REEEP Programme Coordinator, RE and M&E team for all
drafted documents. Work closely with M&E team to provide
inputs from business case.
- Archive all data and drafted document as instructed by REEEP - PR
C. Required Entry Qualifications and Competencies
- In order to qualify for an internship, one
must be currently enrolled at a college or university, attending a
course of further study of which the completion of an internship is an
integral component or have graduated no more than six months
before commencing the internship.
- Graduates from Engineering discipline from
reputed university home and abroad, and preferably with industry
experience.
- MBA will be considered as an advantage.
- Overall exposure to energy sector or on
Renewable Energy and/or Energy Efficient projects in Bangladesh will be
added advantage.
- Experience of writing proposals or reports for different clients.
D. Further Knowledge / Skills
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook)
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work under pressure in a multicultural context and meet strict deadlines
E. Language skills
- Fluency in written and spoken English and Bangla is a basic requirement
F. Others
