Social Innovation Lab (SIL) is a cross-disciplinary platform for our
staff to learn about best practices in development, generate ideas,
experiment, and share knowledge about scalable innovations with the
global development community. SIL works as a knowledge and
experimentation hub, and has been continuously supporting BRAC for stay
ahead of the curve by capitalising on emerging opportunities and
catalysing innovation throughout the organisation.
We are looking for a Design Lead to be a part of our Social Innovation
Lab in solving some of the most challenging problems we are facing
right now. You’ll work with a multi-disciplinary team of professionals
to improve the quality of life for the world’s poor through
human-centred design. You’ll gain inspiration and empathy for the
low-income people we seek to serve by conducting field research in
Bangladesh and beyond. You’ll transform behavioural insights into new
products, services, and experiences that we’ll design, prototype, and
test—then help our programmes take these new solutions to millions of
people. Your work will include designing a range of products/services
for financial inclusion, education, healthcare, legal aid services,
solving urban housing problems among others.

Senior Manager, Social Innovation Lab
Job Description/Responsibilities:
- Champion design excellence within teams,
illuminating the difference between “good” and “great” work, and inspire
teams to get there
- Set the creative and strategic direction across a variety of design challenges: interaction, product, space and service design
- Conduct design research in low-income communities
across Bangladesh and move quickly into prototyping solutions at
various levels of fidelity
- Develop guideline, tools and techniques to conduct
behavioural research and facilitate team to apply the systematic
process, i.e. defining problem, field research, ideation, solution
design and testing
- Create positive environment in the team for
innovative design thinking, generating ideas and learning from
failures and others success
- Create rapid prototypes to validate design concepts with stakeholders and customers
- Demonstrate passion for building, prototyping, and continually evolving products/services throughout the product life cycle
- Experience planning and hosting collaborative
workshops, user research and/or usability testing and conducting
comparative/competitive landscape and content audits with the team
- Articulate the value of human-centred design through verbal and visual presentation
- Probe, assess and evaluate behaviours of targeted
groups of people and then translate that knowledge into improving
programmes and offerings Guide and mentor others
- Instil project teams with the confidence and discipline to explore innovative design solutions
- Support designers to infuse their passions into projects and learn new skills
- Be collaborative and contribute to healthy team motivation and morale
- Contribute to BRAC’s culture of innovation

Requirements |
|
Educational Requirements: Masters
in Demography, Anthropology, Sociology, Development Studies and any
other Social Science subjects with minimum CGPA 3.00.
Experience Requirements: 5+ years of professional experience in a design consultancy or equivalent position leading multidisciplinary design teams
Additional Job Requirements:
- An obsession with what design and technology can do for people
- Experience managing clients and partners—from early stage companies to mature organisations
- Solution-focused and medium-agnostic, willing to
step out of your core skill set or discipline to find the correct
solution to a challenge
- Fluency in the human-centred design process and
practices from qualitative research and synthesis to ideation,
prototyping, and implementation
- Willing and able to travel within Bangladesh ~ 30% - 40% of the year
- Cultural sensitivity, creativity, and
resourcefulness—as comfortable finding your way through a bustling
market in Chandpur as you are in a design studio workshop
